Tricity (Trójmiasto) is a metropolitan centre including three cities: Sopot, Gdynia, Gdansk, located in the northern part of Poland, on the area of 414,38 square kilometers.

Gdansk is the main center of Tricity, headquarters of the Pomeranian Voivodeship authorities, is the city on poviat rights. It is industrial, scientific and cultural centre of the northern Poland. The identity of the city was build upon thousands years old history written by – according to city’s location – many different cultures. Gdansk was the city where the World War II began and Solidarnosc was founded – a labour movement that led to fall of communism in Poland.

Sopot is a city on poviat rights, located in the centre of Tricity, between Gdynia and Gdansk. It has sanatory ans cultural character, but is also famous for its wooden molo – the longest one in Europe. After the World War II Sopot became famous because of Opera Lesna and number of music festival organized in that place.

Gdynia, another city included in Tricity agglomeration, located on the seashore of Baltic Sea, on the rights of poviat. The city rights were granted by Gdynia in 1926. The rapid development was started by the foundation of Gdynia Docs, which was about to connect Poland to major trade sea routes and become the centre of marine forces of Poland. The reason for that decision was unstable position of Poland and dangered suverenity of Gdańsk. Thanks to this investment a village turned to a big city. Nowadays, Gdynia is one of the major cities of Poland, which is not a Voivodeship city.

Important place for migrants is the Support Centre for Immigrants (Centrum Wsparcia Imigrantówi Imigrantek – CWII).

Immigrants Support Centre (Centrum Wsparcia Imigrantów i Imigrantek; CWII Trójmiasto is an initiative aimed at local immigrants. The centre focuses on activities for integration and antidiscrimination, e.g. legal information, support in dealings with the offices and town institutions, Polish language courses, career guidance etc.According to the policy of the organisation, the CWII is created in a participatory way together with its clients. The support is offered in Polish, English and Russian. The organisation is a member of the EU Civil Society Platform against trafficking in human beings, set up by the European Commission. Its aim is to engage the non-governmental organisations in different aspects of preventing human trafficking and to react to its signs. The assistance of the Centre is free of charge.

The main assumptions of the Centre include:

– various ways of supporting immigrants,

– building receiving-migrant community, the platform for meetings, integration and cooperation,

– launching cooperation with local authorities for integration, and building policy on migration.
